Waipahu Grabs Lead In Sixth Inning To Defeat Ewa
Waipahu stole the lead late in the game in a 9-8 victory over Ewa on Sunday. The game was tied at eight with Waipahu batting in the bottom of the sixth when Kaiana Eldredge grounded out, scoring one run.
Waipahu built a five-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off Ewa ‘s charge. Ewa scored seven runs in the failed comeback on a error in the fifth, a single by Jarvis Nohara in the fifth, a in the sixth, a single by Coen Goeas in the sixth, and a error in the sixth.
Ewa opened up scoring in the second inning, when Reid Goto singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Waipahu scored three runs in the fourth inning. Logan Salcedo, Revan Wong, and Chevas Numata each had RBIs in the frame.
David Torigoe got the win for Waipahu. The fireballer surrendered zero runs on two hits over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. Kale Kaalekahi threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Dane Kaneshiro took the loss for Ewa. Kaneshiro went two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out one.
Shaun Kiriu started the game for Waipahu. The ace lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out four Kodey Shojinaga started the game for Ewa. The hurler lasted three and a third innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out four
Waipahu had seven hits in the game. Numata and Wong each had multiple hits for Waipahu. Numata went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Waipahu in hits.
Ewa tallied 12 hits. Goto, Goeas, Shojinaga, and Noah Kubo all managed multiple hits for Ewa. Goto led Ewa with three hits in five at bats.
