Waipahu Nabs Win Over McCully Despite Early 3-Run Inning
Even though Waipahu gave up three runs in the third inning, they still defeated McCully 13-3 on Sunday. McCully offense in the inning was led by Ryllen Abeshima, Jacob Wong, and Devin Yoshino, who all drove in runs.
Waipahu pulled away for good with three runs in the fifth inning. In the fifth Chevas Numata drew a walk, scoring one run and Zach Kometani singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Waipahu notched five runs in the seventh inning. Waipahu offense in the inning was led by Dillon Shim, Reece Kato, and Justin Protacio, all driving in runs in the inning.
Shaun Kiriu earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Waipahu. Kiriu allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out two. Skyler Yamamoto threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Yamamoto recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Waipahu.
Jason Shiigi took the loss for McCully. The pitcher allowed zero hits and three runs.
Kaipo Paiva started the game for Waipahu. The ace went three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out four Al Estes started the game for McCully. Estes allowed three hits and two runs over four innings, striking out one
Waipahu had 11 hits in the game. Kometani and Alika Kuraoka all had multiple hits for Waipahu. Kometani went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Waipahu in hits. Waipahu didn’t commit a single error in the field. Kuraoka had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.
