#4 Mililani defeated #2 Manoa 14 to 2 in the Loser’s bracket game (Game 8) of the Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship Tournament on Wednesday (3/5/25) night at the Ala Wai in a battle of once defeated teams in the Tournament. Manoa advanced to this game by defeating Sheridan Midas 7 to 6 on Sunday (3/2/25) in a thrilling come-from-behind victory in 10 innings after being behind 6 to 2 going into the 9th inning. Mililani dropped into this Loser’s bracket game having lost earlier to Waipahu 11 to 7.
Mililani won behind the iron man starting pitching performance of Zach Gushiken, who held Manoa to 2 runs on 8 hits, walking none and striking out 5 while pitching 7 innings. Gushiken has pitched in every Mililani game in the Tournament, starting 2 games, going 9 and 7 innings respectively. Gushiken allowed Manoa only 2 runs in the 3rd inning and shut them out in every other inning while stranding 9 base runners. Mililani scored 3 in the 2nd inning to take an early lead, then held off a Manoa 2 run rally in the 3rd inning. The score remained the same until Mililani scored 2 in the 5th inning on a 2 run homer by Gushiken to take a 5 to 2 lead. Mililani scored 1 run in the 6th inning before exploding for 5 runs in the 7th and 3 in the 8th inning to break the game open. Mililani was led by Matt Matsuda with 3 hits & 3 RBI. Ryan Ohira, Ryne Yamashiro and Jarrett Taira chipped in with 2 hits each while Zach Gushiken contributed with 4 RBI including a hustling inside-the-park Homerun.
Manoa was led by Reyce Kajiwara with 2 hits. Manoa is ELIMINATED from the Tournament with 2 losses.
#4 Mililani remains in contention in this double elimination Tournament and will play #1 Waialae in Game 9 on Thursday (3/6/25) 7pm at the Ala Wai.
The winner of Game 9 advances to Game 10 (possible Championship Game) on Sunday (3/9/25) at the Ala Wai 10am against #5 Waipahu. If Waipahu WINS, Waipahu wins the 2024-25 Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship.
Otherwise, if the Game 9 Winner beats Waipahu in Game 10, then an IF NECESSARY game (Game 11 @1pm) between Waipahu and the Game 9 Winner will be played to determine the 2024-25 Oahu AJA Baseball League Champion.
Zach Gushiken Drives 4 Runners Home In Mililani AJA 2024-25 Victory Over Manoa AJA 2024-25

Zach Gushiken drove in four runs on one hit to lead Mililani AJA 2024-25 past Manoa AJA 2024-25 14-2 on Wednesday at Ala Wai. In the fifth inning, Gushiken hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs.
Mililani AJA 2024-25 got on the board in the top of the second inning after JR Bunda induced Gushiken to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Matt Matsuda singled, scoring two runs.
Mililani AJA 2024-25 scored five runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning. Matsuda doubled, scoring one run, Ryne Yamashiro tripled, scoring one run, Zaine Gushiken singled, scoring one run, J Taira drew a walk, scoring one run, and Gushiken grounded out, scoring one run.
Gushiken started the game for Mililani AJA 2024-25. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking none. Bunda opened the game for Manoa AJA 2024-25. The starter gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking five. Chase Wago appeared in relief for Mililani AJA 2024-25.

Manoa AJA 2024-25 couldn’t keep up with Mililani AJA 2024-25 and fell 14-2 on Wednesday at Ala Wai.
