Playoff Game 6: #2 Manoa 7 – 6 #3 Sheridan Midas 03/02/25 (Sun) 10am @Ala Wai

The Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship Tournament play continued with a loser’s bracket Game 6 on Sunday (3/2/25) at the Ala Wai as #2 Manoa rallied with 4 runs in the 9th inning and 1 run in the 10th inning to complete an exciting 7 to 6 walk-off comeback win against #3 Sheridan Midas.  The loss knocks Sheridan Midas out of the Tournament.

Sheridan Midas struck first scoring 2 runs in the first inning and another run in the 3rd inning to take the early 3 to 0 lead.  Manoa answered with runs in the 4th and 5th innings to close the lead to 3 to 2.  Sheridan Midas answered with unanswered single runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings to take a 6 to 2 lead into the bottom of the 9th inning.  Manoa starting pitcher Reece Kiriu went 6 innings with reliever Ryan Ancheta finishing the game and earning the win.  Sheridan starting pitcher Bronson Ichimura pitched 7 strong innings, only allowing 2 runs.  Reliever Joey Maekawa pitched the rest of the game and took the loss but was undone by faulty fielding and defensive mental mistakes.  In the fateful 9th inning, Sheridan began the inning with an error, followed by 3 singles to score the inning’s first run.  A sacrifice fly followed to drive in the inning’s second run.  A strikeout followed.  Manoa’s JR Bunda then came through with a clutch 2 out base hit to score the 2 baserunners, tie the game and send it to the 10th inning.  For extra innings, the Tournament utilizes the international rule of having a “ghost” runner at 2nd base to start the inning for the team batting.  In the top of the 10th inning, Sheridan failed to advance the “ghost” runner beyond 2nd base.  In the bottom of the 10th, Codey Isa won the game for Manoa in walk-off fashion on a 2 out single just beyond the reach of an incoming diving left fielder on a full count pitch with runners going on the pitch.  Isa continued his scorching hot hitting in the Tournament going 4 for 6 with 3 RBI against Sheridan, after going 4 for 4 with 4 RBI in Manoa’s previous win over Kaneohe.

Manoa continues the long trek back through the Loser’s bracket as the Game 6 Winner advances to play #4 Mililani on Wednesday (March 5, 2025) 7pm at the Ala Wai in a LOSER OUT ELIMINATION game (Game 8).   Sheridan Midas has been eliminated from the Tournament with 2 losses.
