Sakurai’s Walk-Off Seals The Deal In Manoa Victory Over Waipahu
Manoa took Sunday’s game in dramatic fashion, with a 5-4 walk-off victory over Waipahu. The game was tied at four with Manoa batting in the bottom of the tenth when Brent Sakurai doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Waipahu scored three runs in the third inning, but Manoa still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Waipahu came thanks to a single by Zach Kometani and a fielder’s choice by Dylan Salcedo.
Waipahu captured the lead in the third inning when Reece Kiriu induced Salcedo to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Manoa tied things up at four. Manoa scored two runs when Skyler Tengan singled.
Austin Sloan was the winning pitcher for Manoa. The fireballer lasted one inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while walking zero. Jarrett Nam threw five innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Shaun Kiriu took the loss for Waipahu. The pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs over three and a third innings, striking out three and walking one.
Kiriu started the game for Manoa. The ace allowed six hits and three runs over four innings, striking out one Kaipo Paiva started the game for Waipahu. The hurler lasted two innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out two
Manoa hit one home run on the day. Easton Torigoe had a long ball in the eighth inning.
Manoa tallied 13 hits on the day. Sakurai, Torigoe, and Ty Ashimine each managed multiple hits for Manoa. Sakurai went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Manoa in hits.
Waipahu racked up 11 hits on the day. Kometani, Chevas Numata, and Trey Yukumoto all had multiple hits for Waipahu. Waipahu didn’t commit a single error in the field. Salcedo had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.
