Doi’s Walk-Off Gives Manoa Victory Over McCully
Manoa defeated McCully 3-2 on Sunday thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at two with Manoa batting in the bottom of the ninth when Russell Doi singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Manoa pitchers struck out 11, while McCully pitchers sat down ten.
McCully opened up scoring in the second inning. Rylen Kawakami drove in one when Kawakami tripled.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Manoa tied things up at two. Doi drew a walk, scoring one run.
Skyler Tengan earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Manoa. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking zero. Jarrett Nam, Eric Awaya, and Austin Sloan all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
Scott Uehara took the loss for McCully. The bulldog allowed four hits and two runs over two innings, striking out two.
Al Estes started the game for McCully. Estes lasted three innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four Lyle Shimata started the game for Manoa. Shimata lasted three innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out one and walking zero
Manoa tallied one home run on the day. Brent Sakurai went for the long ball in the fifth inning.
