Seven RBI Day For Braxton Kihara Leads Kaneohe Past McCully
Braxton Kihara drove in seven on three hits to lead Kaneohe past McCully 17-7 on Sunday. Kihara drove in runs on a double in the first, a single in the second, a fielder’s choice in the third, and a double in the seventh.
Kaneohe grabbed an early lead. Kaneohe scored in the first inning on a single by Brent Vargas, a walk by Loren Owan, a walk by Derrick Yamamoto, a double by Kihara, a double by Brede Kochi, a single by Kristopher Kahanu, & a double by Vargas.
After McCully scored three runs in the top of the second, Kaneohe answered with three of their own. McCully scored when Coy Ashimine singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Rylen Yamamoto grounded out, scoring one run, and Davis Sato singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Kaneohe then answered when Kihara singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs and Yoneshige tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Yamamoto got the win for Kaneohe. Yamamoto surrendered five runs on five hits over five innings, striking out five. Vargas threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Vargas recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Kaneohe.
Jason Shiigi took the loss for McCully. The hurler surrendered seven runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one.
Kaneohe saw the ball well today, racking up 15 hits in the game. Kihara, Yamamoto, Vargas, Owan, and Yoneshige each collected multiple hits for Kaneohe. Kihara led Kaneohe with three hits in five at bats.
McCully collected nine hits on the day. Sato and Ashimine all collected multiple hits for McCully. Sato went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead McCully in hits.
