In the 87th Annual (2024) Hawaii State AJA Baseball Championship Tournament’s 2nd game, Maui came back to beat Oahu 8 to 7.
Waipahu collected 16 hits but stranded 14 runners on base while committing 4 errors. 3rd baseman Tyler Hanzawa led the way with 3 hits while 2nd baseman Logan Salcedo, Designated hitter Chevas Numata, 1st baseman Alika Kuraoka, Catcher Kaiana Eldredge & Centerfielder Reese Kato all paired hits. Salcedo got on base 5 out of his 6 plate appearances. Eldredge drove in 2 runners. Starting pitcher Shaun Kiriu pitched 5 innings allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, striking out 3, 1 hit by pitch. Reliever Skyler Yamamoto pitched 3 innings. allowing 3 earned on 4 hits, striking out 2 with 1 walk.
Maui collected 12 hits, stranding 7 runners on base while committing 1 error. Centerfielder Brett Komatsu had 4 hits, scoring 3 runs with 1 rbi & 1 stolen base. 1st baseman Chazz Ishikawa had 3 hits with the go ahead 2 run homer in the 6th inning & 3 rbi while scoring 2 runs. Catcher Jaylen Suda had 2 rbi. Starting pitcher Jay Texeria pitched 3 innings giving up 3 runs on 9 hits. Reliever Barry Takahasi gave up 3 runs in 1/3 inning on 3 hits before Reliever Callen Beeson entered in the 4th & finished the game, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 6, walking 4 to earn the win.
