Waialae defeated Waipahu 4-1 Thursday night in the 2nd game of the Championship Series at Hans L’Orange Field. With the win, Waialae evened the series and sent the series to a winner take all Game 3 on Sunday, March 17, 1 p.m. at Hans L’Orange. The winner, as Champion of the Oahu AJA Baseball League, will represent Oahu against Maui, Kauai and the Big Island in the 84th Annual Hawaii State AJA Baseball Tournament hosted by the Hawaii AJA Memorial Baseball League in Hilo.

Waialae’s Davin Morita outdueled Waipahu’s Shaun Kiriu in Waialae’s 4 to 1 win. Morita pitched 8 1/3 innings, holding hard hitting Waipahu to 4 hits while striking out 5. Waialae’s Josh Nakamura saved the game by stranding the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning. Waialae’s Brandon Roberts struck the big blow, a 3 run homer, in the 3rd inning. Drayson Ito and Kyle Watase each had 3 hits for Waialae.
Kiriu pitched a 9 inning complete game while giving up only 1 earned run, scattering 9 hits.
Waipahu Falls To Waialae
- Waipahu got things started in the first inning when Zach Kometani‘s sac fly scored one run for Waipahu .
- Waialae responded with 3 runs in the 3rd inning on Brandon Robert’s 3 run homer over the left field fence and another run in the 4th inning on 3 hits with Drayson Ito driving in the run.
- Davin Morita was credited with the victory for Waialae . He went eight and a third gritty innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out five. Josh Nakamura threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Nakamura recorded the last two outs with the bases loaded to earn the save for Waialae .
- Hard luck Shaun Kiriu took the loss for Waipahu . He allowed nine hits and four runs over nine innings, striking out three and walking one.
- Logan Salcedo went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Waipahu in hits.
- Waialae racked up nine hits on the day. Drayson Ito and Kyle Watase each had 3 hits for Waialae .
