Pearl City rallied to defeat powerhouse Waipahu 15 to 9 in the Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship Game to win it’s first Oahu Championship since 1982. Pearl City won the best of three series against Waipahu by beating Waipahu 10 to 9 in the 2nd game and 15 to 9 in the championship game after losing 7 to 8 in the first game. Pearl City completed the season sweep by winning the Championship Tournament after finishing 1st during the Regular season. On April 7-8, 2018, Pearl City will represent Oahu in the Hawaii State AJA Baseball Championship Tournament on Kauai against championship teams from the Big Island, Maui & Kauai.
4-Hit Day For Sing Chow Earns Pearl City Victory Over Waipahu
- Waylen Sing Chow got busy on the basepaths on Thursday, knocking four hits in Pearl City ‘s 15-9 victory over Waipahu . Sing Chow singled in the third, tripled in the fourth, singled in the fifth, and tripled in the eighth.
- Waipahu scored five runs in the second inning, but Pearl City still managed to pull out the victory. Waipahu big bats were led by Derek Costigan, Revan Wong, Chevas Numata, and Alika Kuraoka, who all drove in runs.
- Waipahu opened up scoring in the second inning. Costigan drew a walk, scoring one run.
- Pearl City took the lead for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Kip Masuda singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
- Pearl City scored four runs in the third inning. Pearl City batters contributing to the big inning included Austin Nagamine and Chad Takabuki, all driving in runs in the inning.
- Todd Takabuki was the winning pitcher for Pearl City . He surrendered three runs on six hits over five and a third innings, striking out two. Allen Komori threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
- Shaun Kiriu took the loss for Waipahu . He went three and a third innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits and striking out one.
- Daven Hermosura started the game for Pearl City . He allowed three hits and five runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
- Pearl City saw the ball well today, racking up 19 hits in the game.Sing Chow, Wade Tamaru, Chris Goya, Charles “Kale” Kaalekahi, Nagamine, and Tyler Tokunaga each racked up multiple hits for Pearl City . Sing Chow went 4-for-6 at the plate to lead Pearl City in hits.
- Waipahu tallied 11 hits in the game. Wong, Numata, and Tyler Hanzawa all managed multiple hits for Waipahu .
