Early Lead For Mililani Seals Fate For Pearl City in Oahu AJA Baseball League 2023 Season Opening Game
In the opening game of the Oahu AJA Baseball League’s 2023 season, Mililani marked its return to the League with an opening day win. Pearl City took the early lead but then fell behind and couldn’t come back in a 4-3 loss to Mililani on Sunday.
Mililani pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning as Hunter Kirihara singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run and Ryne Yamashiro doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
After Mililani scored one run in the top of the seventh, Pearl City answered with one of their own. Pearl City then answered when Tanner Inouye drew a walk, scoring one run.
Kyle Matsuoka took the win for Mililani. The bulldog allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one. Bronson Ichimura, Andrew Matsueda, and Reece Matsukawa all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Ichimura recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Mililani.
Brannon Liu took the loss for Pearl City. The bulldog lasted three innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out two.
Jaydon Arakawa started the game for Mililani. The fireballer went three innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out four
Davin Kapuras, Brent Clymer, Christopher Goya, Dylan Akagi, Kip Masuda, and Tyler Tokunaga each collected one hit to lead Pearl City.
Jensen Kim went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Mililani in hits.
