#1 WAIPAHU came from behind then held on to beat #3 Pearl City 8 – 7 in the Country Division Postseason 3rd Round on Thursday night (7pm), March 10, 2022 at Ala Wai.

Waipahu Holds Off Pearl City For Victory
Waipahu got out to a four-run lead in the sixth inning and held on for an 8-7 victory over Pearl City on Thursday. Pearl City scored three runs in the failed comeback on a single by Tanner Inouye in the seventh, a sacrifice fly by Tanner Tokunaga in the seventh, and a single by Allen Komori in the ninth but failed to score the tying run in the ninth, leaving the bases loaded.
There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Waipahu collected nine hits while Pearl City had 15. Pearl City stranded 16 baserunners, including leaving the bases loaded in the 2nd, 8th & 9th innings
In the first inning, Pearl City got their offense started when an error scored one run for Pearl City.
Pearl City scored three runs in the second inning. The big inning for Pearl City came thanks to a walk by Davin Kapuras and a single by Tyler Tokunaga.
Waipahu launched one home run on the day. Eldredge had a long ball 2 run homer over the Ala Wai left field fence in the second inning for Waipahu’s first 2 runs.
Waipahu pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third Chevas Numata tripled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Zach Kometani doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Kaiana Eldredge doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and an error scored one run for Waipahu.
Kale Kaalekahi pitched Waipahu to victory. The fireballer lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and zero runs while striking out six. Jordan Deponte and David Torigoe entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Torigoe recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Waipahu.
Nolan Kometani took the loss for Pearl City. Kometani lasted three innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out one and walking zero.
Kaipo Paiva started the game for Waipahu. The pitcher lasted one and one-third innings, allowing two hits and four runs while striking out two.
Waipahu saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Numata, Kometani, and Eldredge each managed multiple hits for Waipahu. Numata went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Waipahu in hits.
Pearl City totaled 15 hits. Kapuras, Christopher Goya, Kip Masuda, Inouye, and Komori each collected multiple hits for Pearl City.
