Pearl City Fights Back In Loss To Kaneohe
Despite a 7-run deficit in the second inning, Pearl City almost came all the way back, eventually falling 7-5 to Kaneohe on Sunday. Pearl City scored five runs in the failed comeback on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Tokunaga, a double by Austyn Nagamine, and a single by Jarin Ching.
Pearl City fell behind early in the loss. Kaneohe scored on a double by Brent Vargas in the first inning, a double by Ryne Miyamoto in the first inning, a single by Justin Ibara in the first inning, a groundout by Bryson Kihara in the second inning, a single by Aalona Amimoto in the second inning, a double by CJ Ibara in the second inning, and a walk by Easton Izu in the second inning.
Kaneohe got things started in the first inning. Vargas drove in one when Vargas doubled.
Pearl City scored five runs in the seventh inning. Tokunaga, Nagamine, and Ching powered the big inning with RBIs.
Kaneohe scored four runs in the second inning. Kaneohe offense in the inning was led by Kihara, Amimoto, Ibara, and Izu, all driving in runs in the inning.
Ibara pitched Kaneohe to victory. The hurler surrendered five runs on ten hits over six and a third innings, striking out eight. Eric Akamine threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Akamine recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Kaneohe.
Brannon Liu took the loss for Pearl City. Liu allowed four hits and six runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three.
Pearl City scattered 11 hits in the game. Ching and Nagamine all managed multiple hits for Pearl City. Ching led Pearl City with three hits in four at bats. Pearl City was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Kip Masuda had the most chances in the field with eight.
Kaneohe totaled ten hits. Miyamoto and Vargas all managed multiple hits for Kaneohe. Miyamoto went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Kaneohe in hits.
