Waialae Wins Game 1.
Micah Nakasone and Josh Nakamura scattered 8 hits and led Waialae to a 6-4 victory in Game 1 of the Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship Tournament Series. AD Mols and Jordan Murai had two hits apiece and David Chu drove in 2 runs. Logan Salcedo led Waipahu with 3 hits and Chevas Numata had 2 hits.
Waialae scored 4 runs in the second inning behind RBI singles by Mols and Murai and a 2 run single by Chu. They added two more runs on a Tyler NItahara single and he later scored on a error by the left fielder. Waipahu crept closer with single runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings but Nakamura shut the door in the 8th and 9th innings for the win.
The series continues Wednesday, March 18, 7 p.m. at Ala Wai Field. Game 3, if necessary, will be Thursday, March 19, 7 p.m. at Ala Wai Field.
Waialae Sets The Stage For Victory With Early Lead Over Waipahu
- Waialae defeated Waipahu 6-4 thanks to a strong start. Waialae scored on a single by AD Mols, a single by Jordan Murai, and a single by David Chu in the second inning.
- Waialae pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second Mols singled, scoring one run, Murai singled, scoring one run, and Chu singled, scoring two runs.
- Micah Nakasone got the win for Waialae . He lasted six innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out three. Josh Nakamura threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Nakamura recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Waialae .
- Shaun Kiriu took the loss for Waipahu . He went four innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and walking zero.
- Waialae tallied ten hits in the game. Murai and Mols all collected multiple hits for Waialae. Murai went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Waialae in hits.
- Waipahu collected nine hits on the day. Logan Salcedo and Chevas Numata each collected multiple hits for Waipahu . Salcedo led Waipahu with three hits in five at bats.
