Waipahu defeats Pearl City 9 to 4 in the deciding game 3 of the Country Division Super Round and wins the Country Division Championship 2 games to 1. Waipahu advances to the Best of 3 Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship Series against Waialae. Earlier Waialae defeated Manoa two games to none for the Town Division Championship.
The series begins with Game 1 on Sunday (March 15) at 1pm at the Ala Wai. By virtue of having the best regular season record, Waialae gets to choose which field (Ala Wai or Hans L’Orange) to play the series. Waialae also gets to be the home team for Game 1 and 3 (if necessary).
The Best of 3 League Championship Series continues with Game 2 on Wednesday (March 18) 7pm at the Ala Wai.
If the teams split the 1st two games, the 3rd and final game will be on Thursday (March 19) 7pm at the Ala Wai.
The winner of the League Championship Series will be crowned the Oahu AJA Baseball League Champion and will represent Oahu in the 85th Annual State AJA Baseball Championship Tournament held April 4 & 5 on Maui at Iron Maehara Stadium against teams from Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.
Pearl City Loses Lead Early In Defeat
- Pearl City fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 9-4 loss to Waipahu on Wednesday. Waipahu scored on a single by Kamalu Neal, a single by Alika Kuraoka, a double by Kaiana Eldredge, and a double by Rayson Romero in the first inning.
- Waipahu fired up the offense in the first inning. Neal drove in one when he singled.
- Pearl City scored four runs in the third inning. Chad Takabuki and Allen Komori each drove in runs during the inning.
- Jordan Deponte earned the win for Waipahu . He allowed three hits and zero runs over six and a third innings, striking out three.
- Daven Hermosura took the loss for Pearl City . He allowed nine hits and nine runs over five innings, striking out two.
- David Torigoe started the game for Waipahu . He allowed five hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three
- Pearl City tallied eight hits on the day. Takabuki and Rorry Nakayama each managed multiple hits for Pearl City . Nakayama and Takabuki each collected two hits to lead Pearl City .
- Waipahu scattered 12 hits in the game. Revan Wong and Romero all collected multiple hits for Waipahu . Wong went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Waipahu in hits. Waipahu was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Zach Kometani had the most chances in the field with ten.
