Ewa AJA Claws Back, But Falls Just Short Against Waipahu AJA

• Ewa fought back after falling down by nine runs in the ninth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 10-9 defeat to Waipahu on Sunday. Ewa scored eight runs in the failed comeback on a single by Bryce Onaga, a single by Jarvis Nohara, a walk by Carson Tsuruda, a single by Garrick Yokoe, a double by Aaron Tom, and a single by Reid Goto.
• Ewa was right in it until Waipahu homered in the sixth inning.
• Ewa evened things up at one in the bottom of the fifth inning. David Nakamura‘s sac fly scored one run for Ewa.
• Waipahu pulled away for good with three runs in the sixth inning. In the sixth Poo Kaalekahi hit a solo homer, Hunter Hirayama singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Dylan Salcedo doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
• Ewa put up eight runs in the ninth inning. The offensive firepower by Ewa was led by Onaga, Nohara, Tsuruda, Yokoe, Tom, and Goto, all driving in runs in the frame.
• Waipahu scored three runs in the ninth inning. Chevas Numata and Revan Wong powered the big inning with RBIs.
• Shaun Kiriu was the winning pitcher for Waipahu. He went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out six. Kaipo Paiva and Kamalu Neal entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
• Nakamura took the loss for Ewa. He surrendered four runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out nine.
• Ewa had 16 hits in the game. Goto, Trent Nakata, Tom, Nohara, Yokoe, and Nakamura all managed multiple hits for Ewa. Goto went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Ewa in hits.
• Waipahu saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. Numata, Salcedo, and Zach Kometani all collected multiple hits for Waipahu. Numata led Waipahu with three hits in five at bats.
