Waipahu takes Game 1.
Waipahu defeated Waialae 7-3 last night in the first game of the Championship Series at Hans L’Orange Field. With the win, Waipahu looks to clinch a berth in the State Tournament in Game 2 at Hans L’Orange Field on Thursday night (3/14/19). Waialae looks to stave off elimination and send the series to a winner take all Game 3 on Sunday, March 17, 1 p.m. at Hans L’Orange Field.

Waipahu Captures Lead Early To Defeat Waialae
- Waialae fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-3 loss to Waipahu on Wednesday. Waipahu scored on a home run by Revan Wong in the first inning, a sacrifice fly by Derek Costigan in the first inning, and a single by Chevas Numata in the second inning.
- Waipahu got things started in the first inning when Wong hit a solo homer.
- David Torigoe was the winning pitcher for Waipahu . He lasted eight and a third innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two.
- Mark Okano took the loss for Waialae . He surrendered seven runs on 12 hits over seven innings, striking out one.
- Evan Yamamoto started the game for Waipahu . He went two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on zero hits
- Waipahu launched two home runs on the day. Wong had a long ball in the first inning. Alika Kuraoka went yard in the third inning.
- Brandon Roberts, Kainalu Pitoy, Brandon Kon, and David Chu each collected one hit to lead Waialae .
- Waipahu tallied 13 hits in the game. Wong, Numata, Dylan Salcedo, and Logan Salcedo all had multiple hits for Waipahu .
