Waialae wins the series 2-1 and will represent the Town Division against the Country Division Champion for the Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship.
Congratulations to Waialae as the Town Division Champion and Waipahu as the Country Division Champion with both teams advancing to the Championship Series of the Oahu AJA Baseball League Championship Tournament.
Game 1 will be Wednesday, March 13, 7 p.m. at Hans L’Orange.
Game 2 will be Thursday, March 14, 7 p.m. at Hans L’Orange.
Game 3, if necessary, will be Sunday, March 17, 1 p.m. at Hans L’Orange.
By virtue of having the better regular season record, Waialae will have home field advantage and will be the home team in Games 1 and 3. Waipahu will be home team in Game 2.
Nishijo’s Walk-Off Picture Perfect Ending in Waialae’s Victory over McCully
- Waialae seized victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off sacrifice fly at the end of the game to topple McCully . The game was tied at 11 with Waialae batting in the bottom of the eleventh when Kaleb Nishijo‘s sac fly scored one run for Waialae .
- A four-run lead in the first inning was just enough for Waialae to hold off McCully for the victory. McCully scored ten runs in the failed comeback on a triple by Scott Uehara in the second, a error in the second, a double by Andy Uehara in the second, a single by Jacob Wong in the second, a single by Easton Takamoto in the second, a sacrifice fly by Mason Suga in the third, and a sacrifice fly by Richie Mariano in the eighth.
- McCully took an early lead in the second inning. Uehara drove in one when he doubled.
- In the bottom of the ninth inning, Waialae tied things up at 11 when Kyle Watase singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
- After McCully scored one run in the top of the seventh, Waialae with one of their own. Waialae then answered when an error scored one run for Waialae .
- Ken Nakamoto got the win for Waialae . He allowed three hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking zero. Josh Nakamura and Davin Morita entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
- Shayne Nakata took the loss for McCully . He surrendered one run on three hits over two and two-thirds innings.
- James Okano started the game for McCully . He allowed nine hits and five runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one Jeremy Dela Cruz started the game for Waialae . He lasted two and a third innings, allowing five hits and nine runs while striking out two
- Waialae socked one home run on the day. Kainalu Pitoy put one out in the eighth inning.
- Waialae had 17 hits in the game. Watase, DJ Andrade, Tyler Nitahara, AD Mols, and Mark Okano each managed multiple hits for Waialae . Andrade and Wataseeach collected three hits to lead Waialae .
- McCully racked up 13 hits on the day. Takamoto, Uehara, Wong, and Ueharaeach had multiple hits for McCully . Takamoto led McCully with four hits in six at bats.
