Waipahu Clinches Lead In Sixth Inning For Victory Over Kaneohe

  • Waipahu snagged a late lead and defeated Kaneohe 12-9 on Sunday. The game was tied at nine with Waipahu batting in the bottom of the sixth when Eric Akamine induced Hunter Hirayama to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
  • Logan Salcedo collected four hits in five at bats to help lead Waipahu to victory.Salcedo tripled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and singled in the sixth.
  • Kaneohe got on the board in the first inning when Kris Kahanu singled on a 1-1 count to drive in one run.  Kaneohe then scored 2 more runs in the inning on a 400 foot homer to deep left centerfield.
  • Kaneohe scored four runs in the second inning. Kaneohe offense in the inning was led by KahanuKewby MeyerAkamine, and Aalona Amimoto, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.  Kaneohe pulled away to an 8 to 1 lead in the top of the 3rd inning with Kris Kahanu’s 420 foot homer to deep center field.
  • Waipahu inched back with 2 runs in the 3rd inning and 2 runs in the 5th inning.
  • Waipahu pulled away for good with five runs in the sixth inning. In the sixth Revan Wong doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Chevas Numata singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and Austin Inabata doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
  • Shaun Kiriu was credited with the victory for Waipahu . He went eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four.
  • Akamine took the loss for Kaneohe . He lasted two innings, allowing six hits and five runs while walking one.
  • Jaydon Arakawa started the game for Kaneohe . He lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out two. David Torigoe started the game for Waipahu . He surrendered seven runs on eight hits over one inning, striking out two
  • Waipahu smacked two home runs on the day. Zach Kometani had a dinger in the seventh inning. Inabata popped an inside the park homer down the right field line in the fifth inning.
  • Waipahu totaled 14 hits in the game. SalcedoInabataDylan Salcedo, and Numata each had multiple hits for Waipahu Salcedo led Waipahu four hits in five at bats.
  • Kaneohe tallied 13 hits on the day. KahanuJensen ParkAkamine, and Meyer all managed multiple hits for Kaneohe Kahanu went 4-for-6 at the plate to lead Kaneohe in hits with Kahanu & Park homering.
