Kometani’s Walk-Off Gives Waipahu Victory Over McCully
- Waipahu took Wednesday’s game in dramatic fashion, with a 9-8 walk-off victory over McCully . The game was tied at eight with Waipahu batting in the bottom of the seventh when Zach Kometani singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
- Waipahu built a four-run lead in the first inning and then held off McCully ‘s charge. McCully scored five runs in the failed comeback. Shane Sasaki, Kaimanuwai Akana, Kamalu Simeona, and Easton Takamoto powered the rally with RBIs.
- McCully got things moving in the first inning. McCully scored one run when Mason Suga singled.
- McCully knotted the game up at eight in the top of the fourth inning, when Takamoto singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
- Chevas Numata earned the win for Waipahu . He lasted two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out three and walking one. Evan Yamamoto threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
- Andy Uehara took the loss for McCully . He surrendered one run on three hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one.
- Keegan Kamaunu started the game for McCully . He allowed three hits and five runs over one inning, striking out two David Torigoe started the game for Waipahu . He surrendered eight runs on six hits over four innings, striking out six
- Waipahu collected ten hits. Numata, Kometani, and Tiras Koon all managed multiple hits for Waipahu . Numata went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Waipahu in hits.
- Suga led McCully with two hits in four at bats. McCully was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Uehara had the most chances in the field with four.
